Investment Analysis Learning Program
Most people find investment analysis intimidating. Charts, ratios, market trends—it feels like a different language. But here's what I've learned after years in this field: understanding investments isn't about memorising formulas. It's about building a framework for making informed decisions.
This program strips away the jargon and focuses on what actually matters. You'll work through real company reports, analyse actual market scenarios, and develop skills that help you evaluate opportunities with confidence. We start in September 2025, with applications opening in June.
What You'll Actually Learn
Six modules spread across eight months. Each one builds on the previous, so you're not just collecting information—you're developing a complete analytical toolkit.
Financial Statement Fundamentals
Reading a balance sheet shouldn't feel like decoding hieroglyphics. We break down income statements, cash flow reports, and balance sheets using real Australian companies.
- Understanding the three core financial statements
- Spotting red flags in company reports
- Comparing companies within the same sector
Valuation Techniques
This is where numbers start telling stories. You'll learn multiple valuation methods and—more importantly—when to use each one.
- Discounted cash flow models explained clearly
- Price-to-earnings ratios in context
- Comparing valuation approaches
Market Analysis & Trends
Markets move for reasons. Sometimes good ones, sometimes terrible ones. This module helps you separate signal from noise.
- Economic indicators that actually matter
- Sector rotation and market cycles
- Reading market sentiment without getting swept up in it
Risk Assessment
Every investment carries risk. The question is whether you're being compensated fairly for taking it. We dig into risk measurement and management.
- Volatility versus actual risk
- Portfolio diversification strategies
- Stress testing investment scenarios
Industry & Competitive Analysis
A company doesn't exist in a vacuum. Understanding its competitive position matters as much as its financial health.
- Porter's Five Forces in practical application
- Identifying sustainable competitive advantages
- Evaluating management quality
Portfolio Construction
Bringing everything together. You'll build an investment thesis and construct a portfolio based on your analysis.
- Asset allocation principles
- Rebalancing strategies
- Documenting your investment decisions
How This Works in Practice
Case-Based Learning
Forget hypothetical examples. We use actual ASX-listed companies, real quarterly reports, and current market conditions. You'll analyse the same information professional analysts work with.
Interactive Sessions
Classes meet twice weekly—Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Sessions run 90 minutes and mix presentation with hands-on analysis. Expect discussions, not lectures.
Project Work
You'll complete six analysis projects throughout the program. Each one mirrors the type of work you'd do in an investment role—researching a company, writing investment memos, defending your recommendations.
